Uncle

Hey there. Long time no write. Yeah…well…been working hard, trying to find some sleep, enjoying the presence of someone new, beautiful and profound in my life, and also just riding the post-solstice, post-peak, post-energy of the summer phase (for me) as I navigate and look toward the fall, winter, next year, and beyond. The obviousContinue reading “Uncle”

The Rising

Good morning everyone– A quick but likely verbose note before heading into today’s market. A teary-eyed (after she left…) and fond farewell yesterday to Keeley (below) as she left for her new home.  Four other pups appear sold (two possibly leaving today and two over the next week) which leaves three looking for homes.  AllContinue reading “The Rising”

Farm Update for Friday, September 15th

Well, seasonal change is affecting many things here on the farm.  First and foremost egg production is dropping.  My chicken egg numbers have dropped to about half of what they were two weeks ago.  I think many of my chickens are now molting.  Small feathers everywhere…  They’ve leveled off but the fact remains that IContinue reading “Farm Update for Friday, September 15th”

Mid-Season Transitions

Genevieve and I have separated and are on the route to getting divorced.  There.  I’ve put it out there.  She has moved into town and I will be staying on the farm. What this means–among many other things–is that I have a severe labor shortage on my farm.  The 70+ hours per week of activityContinue reading “Mid-Season Transitions”

Lambs and kids

With all the new lambs and kids being born this spring it’s hard this year to keep up with naming them.  I came out to see the goats yesterday afternoon and was on hand to help Katie-Jane birth her first buckling.  She was walking around the pen with his toes and nose sticking out (perfect presentation),Continue reading “Lambs and kids”

Spring puppies, lamb and kids

Newborn baby animals are my favorite part of spring!  Last night at 2:30am, after being in labor most of yesterday, Rosie (our English Shepherd) began giving birth.  When she was done she had nine new little puppies, six girls and three boys!  Coloring can change a little over time, but most of them are sable and white!Continue reading “Spring puppies, lamb and kids”

Our horse, Loki, stood very well for the farrier today and he is looking well.  His coat has come in thick and warm and he’s not too fat and not too thin.  He is in our winter pen, along with the goat does.  This fall we ran out of wire fencing for the expansion of theirContinue reading “Loki and his goat girls”
