Uncle

Hey there. Long time no write. Yeah…well…been working hard, trying to find some sleep, enjoying the presence of someone new, beautiful and profound in my life, and also just riding the post-solstice, post-peak, post-energy of the summer phase (for me) as I navigate and look toward the fall, winter, next year, and beyond. The obviousContinue reading “Uncle”

The Rising

Good morning everyone– A quick but likely verbose note before heading into today’s market. A teary-eyed (after she left…) and fond farewell yesterday to Keeley (below) as she left for her new home.  Four other pups appear sold (two possibly leaving today and two over the next week) which leaves three looking for homes.  AllContinue reading “The Rising”

How to order a whole or half hog from Morganic Farm (pigs going in Oct 12)

Well…it’s the eve of the last month of the 2017 Sara Hardy Farmers Market.  Just eight more markets for this season.  Eggs are ready to go–just have to package up the last of them and get to bed. They’re calling for rain tomorrow morning between about 1am and 7am in TC–a little later out here. Continue reading “How to order a whole or half hog from Morganic Farm (pigs going in Oct 12)”

Pre-market thoughts for 9/20…

Good morning.  Just some thoughts before loading up and heading in… Evidently the DDA (if they are the ones who decide this) are considering cancelling or shortening in its duration the Wednesday Sara Hardy Farmers Market–due to poor turn out.  This is all I have heard and how I have heard it.  It’s an interestingContinue reading “Pre-market thoughts for 9/20…”

Farm Update for Friday, September 15th

Well, seasonal change is affecting many things here on the farm.  First and foremost egg production is dropping.  My chicken egg numbers have dropped to about half of what they were two weeks ago.  I think many of my chickens are now molting.  Small feathers everywhere…  They’ve leveled off but the fact remains that IContinue reading “Farm Update for Friday, September 15th”

Pre-Market Note for Saturday, August 12

Good morning, Just a brief note before applying the accelerator– Hope to see you all this morning.  Not sure who ordered the sprinkles but they are supposed to wane around 8am.  This is all good.  High (in Fife Lake) of only 73 today and low tonight of 49?  Wow…sorry–easily distracted. I have three jars ofContinue reading “Pre-Market Note for Saturday, August 12”

Mid-Season Transitions

Genevieve and I have separated and are on the route to getting divorced.  There.  I’ve put it out there.  She has moved into town and I will be staying on the farm. What this means–among many other things–is that I have a severe labor shortage on my farm.  The 70+ hours per week of activityContinue reading “Mid-Season Transitions”

Turkey, Pork and Eggs with a Traverse City Pick up

With the Sara Hardy Farmer’s Market over and Thanksgiving next week, access to good local food can be hard to find through the winter months.  To make this easier, we now have a website that can accept deposits and schedule picking up our products at our Three Mile Road pick up location, or at our farm.  We noContinue reading “Turkey, Pork and Eggs with a Traverse City Pick up”

Week 46: Firewood, chicks, winter planning

This past weekend we resumed our efforts at gathering as much firewood as we could for the coming winter (wood heat is our primary heat source).  We’d been historically diligent at this until about two years ago when we got behind and have treaded water since.  This spring however we built–with the expertise and driveContinue reading “Week 46: Firewood, chicks, winter planning”

How to Shop Morganic Farm in the Winter

Dear loyal and deserving customers, Some of you may still be wondering if you will see us at the Mercado in the GT Commons this season.  For now the answer is “no” and I have no idea when it might be “yes.”  I fatefully caught up with the market master on the last day ofContinue reading “How to Shop Morganic Farm in the Winter”
